
Yarisha Singh graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Dance degree in 2001 from UCT School of Dance and graduated with a distinction in Choreography. She received her advanced certificate in ballet and is a qualified teacher in the Cecchetti Method. Yarisha joined Free Flight Dance Company and La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre. She taught dance in Cape Town, lecturing at UCT, Cape Academy of Performing Arts, La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre, Cape Junior Ballet and community arts projects.
Yarisha freelances on the corporate circuit and has worked with Cape Town Opera, Cape Town City Ballet, Ballet Theatre Afrikan, Jozi Dance Company and Jazzart Dance Theatre.
Yarisha was a performer and student under the direction of Carol Shapiro, Lindy Raizenberg, Mavis Becker, Sharon Friedman, Christopher Kindo and more.
She also worked under directors Geoffrey Hyland, Janice Honeyman, Adele Blank, Esther Nasser and Alfred Hinkel.
Yarisha has choreographed for Free Flight Dance Company, UCT School of Dance, CAPA, Cape Junior Ballet and has extended her choreographic pursuits into the advertising industry. Yarisha’s production, Long Street, was chosen as the commissioned work for Baxter Dance Festival.
Last year Yarisha competed in Kyknet’s dance competition Dans! Dans! Dans! Singh entered the competition “out of curiosity” and a desire to promote dance on a public stage and finished third in the competition.
She has been a member of Mzansi Productions since the inaugural season at Johannesburg Civic Theatre, August 2008. Her most recent choreographic experience was for the production “Avalanche” which ran at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre. She was a choreographer alongside Michael Revie, Tebogo Kgobokoe and Harold van Buuren.
Yarisha was nominated as the Most Outstanding Female Contemporary Dancer for Gauteng MEC Awards 2009.
Yarisha Singh is has contributed and been involved with the dance world in many ways and has added valuable experience to the knowledge of dance. As a choreographer she will share her knowledge with the public as well as her students.
Yarisha will continually educate the public on the beauty and expertise of dance alongside her fellow choreographers who all share the same mission and passion in dance.
