Pro Arte Alphen Park is a unique high school in the East of Pretoria, successfully combining the Arts and Business. This dual medium school offers six specialised focus areas, namely Dance, Art, Music, Drama, Hospitality Studies and Enterprise Management. Enrolling is subject to an audition in a specific focus area. * School fees are R14 850 per year. After school hours, tuition in Dance, Art, Music and Drama is presented by the Arts Academy.

FOCUS AREAS:

Dance
Learners study and train in the classical ballet style, which is highly academic and technically demanding in performance.

Subjects:
Mime, Jazz and Spanish dance, Music appreciation, Theory of ballet and History of dance. Anatomy and Health care are additional written and theoretical subjects.

Career opportunities:
Professional dancer, Choreographer, Set design, Costume design, Dance critic, Physiotherapist or Dance teacher.

Art
Creativity and talent are developed in a diverse cultural environment. Learners develop their own style by analysing, questioning and conceptualising.

Subjects:
Visual art and Design.

Career opportunities:
Fine arts, Architecture, Jewellery design, Interior design, Theatre studies, Fashion, Photography.

Music
Tuition is offered in all Symphonic instruments, as well as Piano, Organ, Harpsichord, Recorder, Voice, Classical guitar and Drum kit.

Subjects:
Preferably TWO Music subjects, including practical tuition in two instruments, Sight-reading, Viva voce, Theory, Harmony (Music Literacy), Critical reflection, Form, Music technology, Composition and Aural training.

Career opportunities: Teacher, Performer (solo or in an orchestra), Accompanist, Ensemble player, Programme compiler, Arranger and Composer.

Drama
Learners receive background knowledge and practical experience. On completion, a learner will be a well-resourced Drama specialist. Learners develop self-confidence and communication skills.

Subjects:
Speech and Drama, Practical Drama, History of Literature, Theatre Music and Costume.

Career opportunities: Performing Arts, Musical Theatre, the Theatre or Film technical field, or any people-orientated career.

Hospitality Studies
It equips learners to enter the labour market on completion of their school career. Learners are trained in all aspects of running a restaurant efficiently at the fully equipped restaurant on site.

Subjects:
Hospitality studies.

Career opportunities:
Managers, Chefs and waiters in the Hospitality Industry (e.g. hotels, restaurants, industrial kitchens), Entrepreneurial opportunities by establishing a small business, training, sales representatives for suppliers of the industry and function coordinators.

Enterprise Management
Learners develop entrepreneurial skills. They establish their own businesses aimed at making a substantial profit. Numeric skills are a prerequisite.

Subjects:
Compulsory: Accounting.

Career opportunities
Entrepreneur, Informatics, Auditor, Accountant or Investment Manager.

Boarding Facilities
Villa Nova, the hostel on the premises, offers weekly boarding to 105 girls. It also offers accommodation to school, sport and tour groups throughout the year (accommodation for 40 people). During school holidays, larger groups (up to 145 people) can be accommodated. * For weekly boarding, the hostel fees are R24 200 per year.
