Born in Kristiansand, Norway, he trained at the Royal Ballet School, London. He joined the PACT Ballet Company in 1983 and moved to the Cape Town City Ballet in 1997. He danced at the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela and has performed as guest artist in Tokyo, Glasgow and New Zealand.
Johnny's repertoire includes Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, Basilio in Don Quixote, Armand in Camille, Florimund and The Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty, Danillo and Camille in The Merry Widow, the Prince in The Nutcracker, Crassus in Spartacus, Solor in La Bayadere and the title roles in Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Orpheus in the Underworld. During his long and illustrious career, he has received many prestigious awards, including the DALRO, FNB Vita and the Nederburg awards.
