And BURN the floor was exactly what they did--any thought that you might have that this title was an exaggeration would be dispelled in the first few minutes of this production. That Artscape stage was on fire!

The audience could scarcely draw breath between each move and each scene change—this cast of top international dancers pounded, pulsed and writhed to the exacting rhythms of a greatly varied selection of music. Every stereotype of what a ballroom dance show could be was smashed as the outfits and the moods ranged from contemporary to hip hop and every style in between. Graceful lyrical numbers provided stark contrast to the up tempo ones with action so fast that the dancers’ feet appeared as a blur of movement. The skill of each person on the stage was breathtaking as they demonstrated flawless execution throughout.

The juxtaposition of the differing moods kept the audience totally captivated and the exceptionally clever lighting and the transitions between each scene were as beautifully conceptionalised as the dancing itself. The use of live singers interspersed with the rest of the music provided yet another element of interest.

We were treated to every possible exploration of the interaction between the sexes from playful to serious but mainly just downright sexy and how proud we were to be treated to the smouldering masculine presence of South Africa’s very own Keoikantse Motsepe who more than holds his own in this cast of top notch international dancers. He is the undefeated South African Latin American Champion since 2004 and brings his own style and flavour to the show.

It is fascinating to note that all of the dancers come from the competition circuit and have in some cases actually competed against each other. How fabulous that they have found a forum in which they can pool their talents to blow away audiences all over the world. In this show, all the dancers score a perfect 10!

The cast credits reveal that the dancers are a veritable United Nations of dance and in our opinion, could do a much better job of uniting the world under the banner of a joyful celebration of life and love.

So who should go to see this show?

Everyone who dances or who has ever danced or who has ever wished that they danced.

And also everyone who needs a most wonderfully entertaining escape from the humdrum of routine and the chill of the winter......not only does this show burn the floor—it will set alight the hearts of everyone in the audience in this tour of South Africa.

You miss this unique experience at your own peril!
