Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba is a genuine expression of the mixture that characterizes Cuban Culture, with its abundant rhythms, movements and colours.
Its performances combine, in an original way, elements of Flamenco, Ballet and dance with Spanish and Afro-Cuban rhythms, resulting in a repertoire which is unique and different, full of virtuosity and sensuality.
Its director and choreographer, Lizt Alfonso, created the company in October 1991, named at the beginning as “Danzas Ibéricas” (Iberian Dances). A year later, In October 1992, it became an independent company taking its present name. In 2000, at the request of the National Performing Arts Council, the company became resident at Havana's Grand Theater.

The company made up only of female dancers, includes its own music group, which composes the shows' original soundtrack and accompaies it in each live performance.
Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba has been acclaimed in the most important theatres in Cuba and other countries of the world, such as the United States, Canada, Spain, France, New Zealnd, Holland, Egypt, Qatar, Germany and others. They performed in South Africa for the first time in February 2012 and danced at the Spier Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch near Cape Town and at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.
The company has also participated in important international festivals, such as: The Vail International Dance Festival in Colorado; the Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity LUMINATO; the Christchurch Arts Festival in New Zealand; the Fall for Dance at the New York City Centre; The Works and Process at the New York Guggenheim Museum; The Columbia Festival of the Arts in Maryland; The Central Park Summer Stage Festival in New York, the International Guitar Festival in Havana and The Interlochen Arts Festival in Michigan.
The company has shared stages with prestigious groups and personalities including The National Ballet of Cuba; The Scala Ballet of Milán; the Cuban National Folklore Ensemble; The Buena Vista Social Club; the Spanish Musical Group “Ojos de Brujo”; The Opera of Cuba; Frank Fernández, Chucho Valdés and the first dancer Carlos Acosta, among others.
Long and standing ovations and excellent reviews have accompanied Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba wherever it performs. Also in South Africa, where the audiences could not get enough of these dancers acclaimed for their co-ordination, perfection and stunning costumes and as a bonus performing to the music of a live band.
