Performing Arts Centre of Ethekwini or as it’s affectionately called, PACE

PACE provides a positive and encouraging atmosphere for dancers, musicians and aspiring actors of all ages and levels to learn and advance their performing arts skills.

Our Outreach programmes enable youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds to be taught by some of the best performing arts teachers the city has to offer, so that they can understand, appreciate and partake in the pleasures of the performing arts and perhaps one day, make a career for themselves with the education received at PACE.

One of our primary goals is to discover, develop and expose artists to sustainable employment opportunities and to provide creative, quality arts and entertainment to the Durban community.

Dance

Apart from Music and Drama lessons PACE offers dance lessons of all different types including:

• Ballet (from Pre-Primary to Master Class level including Vocational qualifications)
• Modern
• Tap
• Hip Hop
• Spanish
• Ballroom

Head of Dance is Yvonne Barker (FISTD), Enrico Cecchetti Diploma, International Examiner.

Outreach & Development

One of our primary missions at PACE is to develop young talent in the disadvantaged sector. We do this through BEE funding and are constantly looking for companies who are prepared to join our SAKE (Sponsor A Kid's Education) programme.

The SAKE programme works as follows: Companies (or individuals) take responsibility for sponsoring the education of a child/student for 1 year (12 months).

Included in the monthly sponsorship fee are the following:

• Tuition fees (1 lesson per week)
• Transport to and from PACE for each lesson
• Ballet kit or Musical instrument hire and music books/sheets

PACE works closely with schools and encourages them to run internal talent competitions and then to put forward 5 scholars each year who show promise in any of the performing arts that we focus on. We then audition these young hopefuls and the successful candidates are taken onboard through our SAKE programme and transported to the PACE Studios weekly for tutoring.

Whether its for BEE purposes, tax deduction purposes or simply because you love the performing arts and would like to give a child an opportunity that they would never have under normal circumstances, we need your help! Just R400pm for a dance/drama sponsorship or R750 for a music sponsorship, your support will change someone's life!
