Denise Jefferson has left the Ailey School mourning. She was the director of the school. She was really a big name in the field of entertainment rather in the dancing field. She was fighting with ovarian cancer and died on Saturday. Since 1974 she was a member of the faculty of famed dance school and became the director of the school in the year 1984. She mentored a large number of young dancers and helped in creating a degree program.

The co-workers of Denise Jefferson say that she was truly a very good woman and her spirit will live forever in the school. Judith Jamison, the artistic director of the Ailey school said that they miss her dearly but they are still smiling because she was a part of the Ailey school.
At the age of eight Denise Jefferson started learning ballet in her home city. She earned scholarship to the MGCCD (Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance) and after one year she started her professional career. She was 65 years old. She is survived by her sister, mother and also her daughter. A memorial concert has also been planed by the Ailey Studio for a later date.
